Ukraine's Halychyna Dairy Company increases sales by 66% in 2010

The Lviv-based dairy company Halychyna expanded the sales by 65.6% or by UAH359 million (US$45.22 million) in 2010 against 2009, to UAH906 million (US$114.12 million).

"The sales grew by 65.6% over 2009 in the terms of the hryvnia, to UAH906 million (US$114.12 million)," stated the company.

The sales of the company in the terms of weight grew by 35.8% over 2009, to 95,000 tonnes.

The company said the investment in the development is estimated at UAH12 million for 2010 (US$1.51 million).

Volodymyr Petryna, director of the dairy company Halychyna, said 2010 was the crisis year for the dairy industry.

"The producers were affected by unfounded price rush on the market of raw materials. This caused retail price hikes and the fall of the consumer moods. In this environment late in 2010 some companies lost up to 30% of the sales," he said.

He noted that the dairy company Halychyna managed to expand its share on the market to 9% of the market of the whole milk products.

Earlier, the dairy company Halychyna in 2009 sold its products for UAH547 million (US$68.9 million), having trimmed the sales by 1%. The sales in the terms of weight fell by 3.2% to 70,000 tonnes.

Halychyna, a closed joint-stock company, has been operating on the Ukrainian dairy market since 1998.

The company produces milk, sour cream, sour milk, kefir, yoghurt, cheeses, and butter. Its main brands are Halychyna, Molochar, 12 Vitaminiv, and Dvi Korivki.
