China uncovers more tainted milk products

Authorities in south-western China have ordered three batches of milk products off shelves due to melamine contamination.

The health department in Guizhou province stopped the sales of dairy products made by three Chinese companies.

China executed two people in November for their role in a major melamine-tainted milk scandal that killed at least six children and tarnished the made-in-China brand.

Nearly 300,000 children fell ill in that scandal in 2008 after drinking milk intentionally laced with melamine, sold mainly by the now bankrupt Sanlu Group.

In an earlier case this month, the Shanghai Panda Dairy Co. had been under a secret investigation for nearly a year, before the Chinese authorities announced that the company had been producing melamine-tainted milk.
