Taiwanese farmers receive subsidy to boost corn production, cut feed prices

Corn farmers in Taiwan will be eligible to obtain TWD45,000 (US$1,386) per hectare as the government strengthens efforts to boost output and stabilize domestic feed prices.

Taiwan's government also assured that other farmers who use their fallow land to grow corn will also receive assistance to market their crops.

The incentives are geared to augment planted acreage of corn to some 10,000 hectares and push production to reach 50,000 tonnes.

Wholesale price of imported corn has risen to TWD11.2 (US$0.35) per kilogramme, up 111 percent from July last year, causing record price hikes affecting the whole animal feed industry.
