China 2006 soybean imports up 6.3 percent on-year

 

 

China's soybean imports in December fell 6.6 percent on-year to 2.44 million tonnes, the General Administration of Customs said Thursday.

 

In 2006, soybean imports rose 6.3 percent to 28.27 million tonnes.

 

China is the world's biggest importer of soybeans and gets most of its supplies from the US, Brazil and Argentina, the world's leading soybean producers.

 

In December, the country also imported 262,754 tonnes of soyoil, 425,014 tonnes of palm oil and 10,645 tonnes of wheat, up 56 percent, up 19 percent and down 84 percent on-year respectively.

 

Corn exports in December totalled 469,401 tonnes, down 20 percent on-year.
