China's Heilongjiang pork exports to Japan at record-high
Tighter regulations on chemical residue on imported food and agric-products in other countries has limited the progress China could make in pork exports last year.
Bucking national trends, China's Heilongiang's pork export increased significantly. In fact, pork has become the top meat export in the province.
Helongjiang's pork export totaled 32,841 tonnes in 2006, a record high, according to Heilongjiang's Livestock Husbandry Veterinary Bureau. Among the companies exporting abroad is Wangkui Company, a subsidiary of Beidahuang Meat Co. Ltd, which exported 1,000 tonnes of frozen pork to Japan last year.
Litao, general manager of Wangkui Company, said that "Beidahuang" pork was popular with a certain pork processor in Japan. Wangkui hopes to export 18,000 tonnes of pork to Japan this year.
