Argentina dry weather soy area loss at least 1 million hectares

Dry weather conditions in soybean growing regions of Argentina may lead to significant crop losses and provide support to global soymeal and vegetable oil prices, said Siegfried Falk, a Hamburg-based analyst.

"At least 1.0 million hectares of the intended Argentine soy area will not be planted this year, which alone will result in a soybean crop loss of around 2.5 million tonnes," Falk, co-editor of the Oil World journal, told Dow Jones Newswires in an interview late Wednesday (January 21).

He said in some of the areas, even though plantings have taken place, they aren't worthwhile because of the high temperature.
