Russia to increase tariffs on non-quota pork and poultry
The Russian government announced on Tuesday (January 22, 2008) there will be an increased tariff on pork and poultry meat imported above a fixed tariff quota in 2008 in order to protect domestic breeders.
A government resolution published on its official website raises the tariff on non-quota pork and poultry meat to 60 percent of the customs value from the previous 50 percent.
The website said pork and poultry tariffs may be abolished after Russia joins the World Trade Organisation.
The resolution will be effective one month after its official publication in the government gazette, which usually happens within days after the web site announcement.
