China's Shandong to conduct high-yield corn demonstration projects
China's Shandong province implemented a high-yield corn demonstration project at the start of 2008 as the province bids to boost corn output.
Shandong's corn acreage covered 2.76 million hectares in 2007, with estimated output of 18.3 billion kilogrammes, according to the province's data. The gap between demand and supply was placed at 4.4 billion kg.
With the high-yield corn project, the provincial government seeks to increase output to 900kg per 0.67ha of high-yield corn field, 800kg per 6.67ha of demonstration field, and 700kg per 667ha of demonstration field.
