China's Guangdong sees drop in grain imports, rise in prices

Guangdong province's grain imports in 2007 dropped by 39 percent in volume at 595,000 tonnes and 22.5 percent in value at US$250 million.

The current price hikes affecting the market is reflective of the insufficient supply against growing demand.

Guangdong consumes 38 percent of China's total grain imports. The average import price rose by 26 percent to US$422 per tonne.
