Vietnam province to improve shrimp farming efficiency

 


The People's Committee of Vietnam southernmost province of Ca Mau approved a plan costing VND15 billion (US$812,347) to improve efficiency of rice-shrimp farming in the 2009-12 period.


The funding will go to nine districts including Tran Van Thoi, U Minh, Thoi Binh and Ca Mau city to set up shrimp breeds farms, buy facilities and improve environment.


Last year, the province developed 49,000 hectares under rice-shrimp farming, up 17% from a year earlier.


Ca Mau is one of two biggest aquatic output province in Mekong Delta region, accounting for nearly 30% of the region's total shrimp output, and 7.4% of the country's.
