Chile's poultry exports last year increased 61.5 percent to US$270 million when compared with 2007.

Exports were driven by the resumption of operations of a large plant in San Vicente de Tagua Tagua.

Poultry meat production grew 4.64 percent to 601,829 tonnes, though domestic consumption dipped 3.74 percent due to price increases.

In addition, Chile's pork exports fell 9 percent in volume and dropped 3.87 percent in value to US$369.8 million, while pork production grew 1.5 percent on-year to 527,510 tonnes.
