China's Liaoning sees pig output at 2.64 million heads on spring festival
The live pig output in Liaoning province is estimated to reach 2.64 million heads, with 510,000 live pigs sold to Beijing, according to Liaoning Provincial Bureau of Animal Health Supervision and Administration.
At the start of January, the province's live pig price has remained stable at RMB16/kilogramme (US$2.21), approximately RMB1/kg (US$0.14) lower than the national average.
Liaoning sold 8.5 million live pigs to other provinces in last year, surging by 21 percent on-year.
About 60 percent of the live pig purchases in Beijing came from Liaoning. By the end of 2007, the province's live pig inventories reached 16 million heads, rising 2.5 percent on-year, with the fertile sow inventories accounting for 1.57 million heads, growing by 8 percent.
