Corn prices mostly weak in China; stable at northern, southern ports (January 20, 2005)

An eFeedLink Exclusive Report

Corn prices in most parts of China were weak early in the week. With the increased supply of newly harvested corn in the market, coupled with tightness in rail transport, prices were mostly on a downward course in the north-eastern production regions.

In the Yellow / Huai River production regions, prices of corn were weak amid market stability. Corn prices in the southern consumption regions showed signs of softening in recent days, due to the increased availability of stocks and sluggish demand.

Prices were mostly stable at the northern and southern ports early in the week. However, marginal price falls were seen in some areas as the recent arrival of newly-harvested corn weighed on the market.
