EU allocates remaining H1 wheat import quota
EU official journal said on Thursday (Jan 19) that the country granted all of the remaining 188,948 tonnes of wheat import licences available for the first half of 2012 under its main tariff-rate quota (TRQ) for wheat.
Each bidder will receive 65.6% of wheat volume requested after this week's auction was overbid, according to the journal.
The EU had made available a total of 1.2 million tonnes of import licences for the first half of the year for low- and medium-quality wheat from outside the US and Canada.
In the first round of the auction last week, the EU had already cleared just over a million tonnes of licences for this main wheat quota.
It also cleared all of a new annual quota of 122,790 tonnes of wheat imports open to all non-EU countries and all of an annual quota of just over 307,000 tonnes of feed barley.
