Russia temporarily lifts Lithuanian county pork imports ban

Ban on pork and raw pork product imports from Lithuania's Kaunas County has been temporarily lifted by Russia's Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Oversight, the service said in a statement Thursday (Jan 19).

The service introduced the ban on imports of live pigs, pork, and pork products in early June 2011 following an outbreak of classical swine fever, and later extended the ban to the whole of Lithuania. In September 2011, the service lifted the ban on imports from all Lithuanian counties, except Kaunas County.

A ban on imports of live and slaughtered pigs, as well as piglets, will remain in place.
