Thailand steps up poultry safety ahead of Chinese New Year
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) officials have prepared stringent safety measures to be implemented in poultry slaughter houses throughout Bangkok in an effort to boost consumers' confidence ahead of the Chinese New Year.
BMA Health Department director, Montira Thongsari stated that the BMA has joined hands with the Ministry of Public Health, the Department of Livestock Development, and the Thai Marketing Association to conduct the "Safe Poultry for Chinese New Year" project, which aims to promote sanitary poultry processing and to boost confidence amongst consumers.
BMA authorities are now inspecting the capital's 42 slaughter houses with a strict focus on hygiene, sterilisation, and safety measures to stave off bird flu virus.
All unregulated slaughtering is prohibited while 13 checkpoints have been established to assure that all animals are uncontaminated before being transported into the capital.
