Russia to export wheat to Brazil
Russia is poised to export wheat to Brazil after meeting Brazilian phytosanitary requirements, according to Inasiu Krez, deputy minister of Agriculture of Brazil.
Russia and Brazil have determined the technical criteria regarding grain quality and phytosanitary security issues, said Krez.
The opening of the Brazilian market to Russia will improve the bilateral trading relations between the two countries, said Krez.
In November 2008, Russia declared that it was ready to export nearly 2 million tonnes of wheat to Brazil.
In 2007, Brazil produced 3.8 million tonnes of wheat and consumed 10.5 million tonnes. Most imports were supplied by Argentina, with the rest from the US.
