Turkey's 2008 wheat production up 3.2 percent on-year
               


Turkish wheat production rose 3.2 percent on-year in 2008, Agriculture Minister Mehdi Eker said Monday (January 19), the Ihlas News Agency, or IHA, reported.

 

Eker told a news conference wheat production is expected to rise further this year.

 

In 2007, Turkey's wheat production fell 13.9 percent to 17.2 million tonnes.

 

Eker also said that government subsidy credits for farmers would increase to 475 million Turkish lira (US$289.9 million) this year from TRY400 million in 2008.
