Russia's Altaimyasoprom starts building US$234.15-million pig farm

Russia's Altaimyasoprom has begun the construction of a RUB7-billion (US$234.15 million) pig farm in the Siberian region of Altai with an annual capacity of 39,000 tonnes of meat, CEO Boris Panov said Tuesday (Jan 18).

Altaimyasoprom's investment in the 330,000 pig farm will consist of 34% of own funds and funds of state development bank Vnesheconombank.

"The construction has already started. All in all three blocks for 110,000 animals each will be built. We plan to build the first this year. Shipments of breeding livestock from France will be done from June to October," Panov said adding the enterprise would become one of three largest farms in Siberia.

The company will start active construction in February and plans to launch the first production block in 2012. Also in 2012, Altaimyasoprom will start building the second farm. Full launch of the three blocks is scheduled for 2013.
