Fonterra to embark on factory improvements

Fonterra Australia will invest US$11.5 million to expand and improve its Wynyard and Spreyton plants.

The processor will be able to collect an extra 200,000 litres of milk per day from farmers, an increase of just under 20%.

Fonterra Australia's Bruce Donnison said the work would have been done sooner, but were put on hold during the financial crisis.

The market is improving and whole milk powder prices in particular, have returned back to traditional levels and it bodes well for the industry, he said.
