Chromium methionine removed from market

Zinpro Corp. has temporarily pulled its chromium methionine product from the US market at the request of the Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM).

The action is the result of a CVM investigation that revealed high levels of chromium in the product.

All nutritional forms of chromium are currently undergoing further scientific review by CVM. Zinpro is the only manufacturer asked to remove its product from the market.

To be allowed back on the US market, Zinpro has to submit to the process of having its chromium methionine go through the formal process of approval as a food additive.

The Association of American Feed Control Officials' would be discussing the removal of chromium methionine from its list of approved feed ingredients at its midyear meeting.

Meanwhile, Zinpro is investigating ways to further demonstrate the safety of chromium methionine and expects to resume sales of the product in the US once the issue has been resolved.

Zinpro said it stands behind the safety of its chromium methionine products, which have been used safely and effectively in the US since 2003 and internationally since 1996.
