Price battle on milk breaks out in Denmark
Initiated by discount supermarket chain Aldi, a price conflict on milk has broken out in Denmark, TV news reports.
SuperBest followed suit and so did Dansk Supermarked and its chains Netto, Føtex and Bilka. It is now possible to buy skimmed milk, mini milk or low-fat milk for DKK4.50 (US$0.77) at some stores.
Coop, with its chains Fakta, Brugsen and SuperBrugsen, has so far not joined the price war.
The price of milk in Denmark was already under pressure following Swedish dairy Skånemejerierne's offensive on the Danish market with its cheap milk that is being distributed across the country via Dansk Supermarked's stores.
