Pakistan's poultry prices up on rising demand

Due to increasing demand for chicken meat and eggs, Pakistan's poultry prices are rising.

The price of broiler meat has risen to PKR240 (US$2.65) per kilogramme from PKR210 (US$2.32) per kilogramme in just a couple of days. And the cost of eggs touched unprecedented PKR120 (US$1.33) per dozen on Tuesday. 'Desi' eggs' price also soared to PKR180 (US$1.99) per dozen from PKR110-120 (US$1.22-1.33) per dozen range.

An owner of wholesale market, Yusuf Saddiqui attributed the steep price hike of eggs to costlier poultry feed which led to lower production during this winter season.

"In fact eggs' price never crossed PKR100 (US$1.11) per dozen limit in near past", he said while going through the price data available to him.
