Russia to tighten pig breeding regulations

Russia's agriculture ministry wants more stringent rules to be in place in the country for pig breeding and transportation in the fight against African swine fever.

The ministry further stated that in order to combat the disease, stricter measures to monitor and prevent unauthorised transportation of animals will need to be a reality.

Also, transport pigs without permission and closed-door breeding farms will be under scrutiny and be a focus.

Yelena Skrynnik, Agriculture Minister, has recently held talks with members of an interdepartmental commission regarding the measures and prevention of African swine fever outbreaks in the Rostov, Stavropol regions and also St. Petersburg.
