Australian November beef output up at 176,667 tonnes

Australia's beef production reached a seasonally adjusted 176,667 tonnes in November, up 0.2% from October and a rise of 8.5% on-year, the Australian Bureau of Statistics said Monday (Jan 17).

The total number of cattle slaughtered in November, excluding calves, was 620,840 beasts, up 0.3% from October, and an increase of 2.7% compared with November 2009.

Australia exports two-thirds of its beef production to the major markets of Japan, the US, South Korea and Southeast Asia, with the level of exports closely tied to production.
