Bulgaria to cull pigs on FMD disease
Bulgaria will be slaughtering 530 animals which include pigs after 37 cases were found to have foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) in the southern village of Kosti, according to the National Veterinary Service.
The service tested 1,600 farm animals in the Burgas region after an infected boar was found near the border with Turkey on January 5, the agency said. All farm animals in Kosti, including pigs will be slaughtered in an effort to contain the spread of the disease, the veterinary service added.
The veterinary service said it is testing blood samples from all farm animals along the border with Turkey.
