India's winter oilseeds acreage shows decrease

India's winter oilseeds acreage up to January 14 fell 6.5% on-year to 8.6 million hectares.

The data was released by the federal government on Friday (Jan 15). The area under winter oilseeds was 9.2 million hectares up to January 14, 2009. The government did not give any reason for the fall in the acreage.

Planting of pulses rose 6.2% on-year to 13.5 million hectares in the same period, the data showed.
