China re-opens doors to German pork imports
China has lifted the ban on German pork imports, a decision which government officials say will renew the two countries' trading partnership.
China has imposed a ban on German pork and pork products for a number of years due to an outbreak of classical swine fever.
Chinese veterinary authorities paved the way for cooperation with Germany after the signing of a bilateral agreement in December 2007.
Gerd Mueller, parliamentary state secretary, emphasised that the speedy opening of the export market for German pork is of utmost importance for both sides.
Muller expects the first batch of pork exports be dispatched to China in the next few months.
Germany hopes to further advance trade relations with China at the International Green Week Fair in Berlin slated on January 18-27, 2008.
