Mekong Delta province reports trade surplus of US$435.4 million

 

 

A trade surplus of US$435.4 million in 2011 has been reported by Vietnam's Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang, the provincial Department of Industry and Trade said.

 

The province exported US$740.03 million worth of goods during the period, rising 29.7% from a year earlier, surpassing 27.6% of the province's full-year target and imported US$304.63 million, up 38.8% on-year and exceeding 69.2% of its whole-year plan.

 

The province's export staples were seafood worth US$314.7 million, up 23% on-year; rice worth US$144.7 million, up 45.5%; seafood worth US$124.7 million, down 14.8% and vegetables worth US$9.5 million, up 3.9%.

 

Meanwhile its main imports were materials for production, including food and beverage material worth US$103.8 million; animal feed material worth US$82.7 million; apparel accessories worth US$77.9 million and plastic material worth US$16.3 million.

 

European remained the province's top export market with 41.6% of the province's total exports. The Asia and the America followed with 30.6% and 22.2%, respectively.

 

Tien Giang's total retail sales and service revenues rose 27.9% on-year to VND27.49 trillion (US$1.3 billion) in 2011.

 

The Mekong Delta province targets to reap US$860 million from exports in 2012, rising 16.2% on-year.
