Russia's December poultry imports up on-month, on-year
Russia imported US$245.7 million worth of poultry in December 2010, 58.6% more than the same month of the previous year, and 74.6% more than the previous month.
In December 2009, US$155 million worth of poultry was imported. For November 2010, US$140.7 million worth of poultry was imported, the federal customs service reported Friday (Jan 14).
The increase in imports on the month is due to the fact that Russia has resumed the import of poultry from the US after agreement was reached with US producers not to treat poultry with chlorine, which is against Russian health regulations.
Russia imported in December 2010 US$171.3 million worth of pork, 29.4% less than in December 2009, when US$242.6 million worth of pork was imported, and 14.5% more than in November 2010, when US$149.7 million worth of pork was imported, the federal customs service reported Friday (Jan 14).
Russia's beef imports in December totaled US$333.8 million, up 17.7% compared with December 2009, the federal customs service said Monday (Jan 17).
December beef imports also rose 78.5% compared with November.
The service didn't give tonnages of the imports, only their worth in dollars.
