Vietnam fisheries targets US$3.6 billion in exports in 2007
The Vietnam fisheries sector expects to reach export sales of US$3.6 billion in 2007, a year-on-year increase of 7.02 percent, and strives to net 3.8 million tones of products, including 2 million tonnes from fishing and 1.8 million tonnes from aquaculture.
Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung has urged the sector to breed more valuable products in order to increase output and serve export.
Hung stressed that by 2010, the fisheries ministry has already set up large-scale fishing boats, guarantee fishermen's safety, and protect the environment and source of income. The deputy prime minister also noted the industry needs to form large business models to achieve the target of US$5 billion annually in export turnover.
