China to produce methionine following acquisition
China National Bluestar (Group) Corporation is expected to acquire Adisseo Group, the world's second largest methionine producer, with EUR400 million this week, according to the Xinhua news agency.
The deal will enable China to produce its own methionine. It currently does not produce its own methionine and imported 120,000 tonnes of methionine in 2005. With technology transfer, China Bluestar plans to set up a production base in China with an annual methionine output of 200,000 tonnes.
Adisseo has an annual methionine output of 200,000 tonnes a year and holds 29 percent of the global market share.
The deal will mark the largest purchase between China and France so far.
