Korea To Introduce Beef-Tracking System In April
The Korean government will begin using an electronic identification system to label the origin of beef products starting April 1. Through the latest measure, the government hopes to distinguish between Korean and imported beef products amid the recent discovery of another mad cow disease in Canada.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry says the measure will also allow officials to keep closer tabs on possibly tainted beef from spreading in the country. An electronic tag will be placed on imported beef and consumers will be able to read the origin of the meat.
