An integrated project comprising of a commercial pig base with a capacity of two million pigs, a slaughtering plant with capacity of two million, feed mills with annual output of 650,000 tonnes of feed, and a meat processing plant capable of processing 50,000 tonnes in Changling County, Jilin, China is well underway.
An investment of RMB40 billion (US$6.6 billion) will be injected by China National Cereals, Oils and Foodstuffs Corporation (COFCO), one of China's state-owned food processing holding companies, in Changling County for the project. Annual production value is estimated at RMB10 billion (US$1.65 billion), with profits of RMB800 million (US$132 million), and taxes of RMB35 million (US$5.8 million). The pig project will create thousands of jobs for locals in surrounding areas. The planning and site selection for the project started in October 2011.
Changling County, is located in the Horqin grassland, and was chosen as the site due to being located on natural grasslands, with high agricultural food production, providing advantages for the development of animal husbandry industry in the area. Construction on the base commenced in September, 2013 and is expected to be operational in August of this year. The construction of feed mill in Daxing Town with an annual capacity of 180,000 tonnes of feed mill has also started.
