Iowa's 2011 corn crop up 9%
Iowa's 2011 corn harvest for grain production was 9% higher at 2.36 billion bushels as compared to 2010 crop, federal officials said.
The USDA says that according to year-end surveys, the average yield corn yield was 172 bushels an acre, up 7% from last year.
Corn planted for all purposes in 2011 were 14.1 million acres in Iowa - 5% more than planted in 2010.
Soy production dropped to 466 million bushels in 2011, which is 6% under the 2010 harvest. The yield averaged 50.5 bushels an acre - a half bushel under the 2010 figure.
The USDA says 9.23 million acres of soy was harvested - 5% less than in 2010.
