Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City fresh milk production up 1.6%
State media reported Friday (Jan 13) that Ho Chi Minh City produced 224,400 tonnes of fresh milk in 2011, up 1.6% from the previous year.
The number of milking cows rose 3.1% on year to 82,000 during last year, posting the largest cow herd in the Southeast Asian country, the newspaper said.
The local authorities plan to reduce the number of small-scale farms as well as apply advanced technology to increase the fresh milk output.
Vietnam's supply of milk meets only about 22% of the local demand and the country needs to import huge volume of milk products.
