Lithuania's average milk purchase price down 0.4%

Lithuania's Agriculture Ministry reported on Friday (Jan 13) that the country's average natural milk purchase price last month reached LTL1,039.3 (US$381) per tonne, down by 0.4 % from November and up 1.6 % from December 2010.

"A drop in natural milk purchase price in December resulted on a decline in milk composition indices ...," the ministry said in a statement.

The total volume of natural milk purchased from farmers last month rose by 6.3% from a year ago, to 98,400 tonnes.

In full 2011, natural milk purchase volumes grew by 3.1%, on-year, to 1.317 million tonnes.

In December, average milk purchase prices ranged from LTL1,145.9 (US$419.6) per tonne paid by Pienas LT to LTL977.7 (US$358) per tonne paid by Vilkyskiu Pienine.
