Yili and Mengniu are top Chinese dairy exporters in 2007
According to latest figures released by Inner Mongolia's Entry-exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, Yili Group and Mengniu Group are the top two Chinese exporters of milk and dairy products in 2007.
These two Hohhot, Inner Mongolia-based companies exported a total of 23,200 tonnes of dairy and milk products worth US$19.7 million in 2007, an increase of 66.4 percent and 98.1 percent respectively compared with 2006.
In the recent years, Yili and Mengniu had not only been expanding production in China. Marketing efforts in their export markets had also continued relentlessly.
Meanwhile, the milk and dairy industry in Hohhot, the capital of Inner Mongolia, had been growing at a steady pace. As of end-2007, dairy cattle inventory in Hohhot had increased to 0.8 million heads, all of which were owned by the 120,000 farming households in the region.
