Peru Ban Anchovy Fishing
Peru authorities have announced a ban on anchovy fishing from January 16.
The Ministry of Production said fishing for anchovy will be banned from the northern part of the nation to 16 degrees south.
The government said that its investigations had found a large amount of reproductive activity.
Peruvian officials regularly place seasonal bans to protect the fish stocks.
Peru is the world's largest producer of anchovy-based fishmeal, used mainly as an animal feed.
