Denmark's pork processors concerned over lower German prices
Two leading pigmeat companies in Denmark, Danish Crown and Tican, expressed their concerns over the lower prices of German pork seen in 2006.
According to a report from LandbrugsAvisen, quoting figures from the Danish Meat Association, the annual price difference in 2006 reached a high of EUR 0.10 per kilogramme in 2006.
For Danish finisher producers, the price difference could add up to an income reduction of over EUR 67,000 on a yearly basis.
The lower pay for German slaughter house workers accounted for part of the difference, according to Bent Lassen, Chairman of Danske Slagterier (DS). Market supplies also played a difference in influencing the prices, he added.
