Czech retail chains may present "dioxin-free" meat and eggs labels

Retailers in the Czech Republic have been asked to introduce a special "dioxin-free" label for meat and egg products.

It has been debated by the Agrarian Chamber of the Czech Republic and the Federation of Food and Drink Industries of the Czech Republic that such a measure would protect the local market and to consumer health considerably.

According to both organisations, retailers, who are accountable for the majority of food sold in the Czech Republic, rely mainly on imported goods like meat and eggs from Germany and other countries.

President of the Czech Federation of Food and Drink Industries, Miroslav Toman, said that retailers can use their knowledge and technologies to determine where the food they sell is derived from and inform their customers.
