South Australia sees highest grain record
Amid rain and downgraded crops, South Australia's grain yield is forecasted to hit 9.72 million tonnes, the biggest grain tonnage ever, reports the departments of Primary Industry's latest Crop and Pasture.
That exceeds the previous record in 2001 by 300,000 tonnes.
Dave Lewis, manager of Grain Industry Development at PIRSA's Agriculture Food and Wine, says this has exceeded expectations.
"The crops have been harvested very well, so it is exceeding expectation and the other good news item out of this, while there is certainly there is rain damaged grain around, there's not been as much as first feared," Lewis added.
