Russia's poultry imports take a downturn

Russia imported 832,800 tonnes of poultry in January-November 2009, 21.9% less than in January-November 2008.

The statistics were reported by the federal customs service on Wednesday (Jan 13).

The imported poultry was worth US$933.1 billion. All the poultry was imported from countries outside the Commonwealth of Independent States.

In December last year, Russia has lowered its import quotas for American poultry and pork imports for 2010, as the country works towards self-sufficiency in meat production.
