Philippine poultry industry looks good amid setbacks
Philippines reports a positive sign from the poultry sector amid reduction in poultry and egg production last year.
According to the Philippines Department of Agriculture (DA), the poultry sector have registered a 3.46% output gain in 2009, even with the production of chicken and chicken eggs decreasing by 3.21% and 6.33%, respectively.
The poultry sector's 2009 share in total agricultural output was 14.09% with gross receipts of PHP100.3 billion (US$2.18 Billion), recording an increase of 11.38% against 2008 figures.
San Miguel Foods Inc. forecasts that the demand for chicken will skyrocket from 16.5 million in 2007 to 24.1 million in 2011.
