Estonia's 2003 Grain Harvest Slightly Up

Estonia harvested 528,200 metric tons of grain in 2003, registering a slight 0.67% increase over 2002, an official at the state statistics service said in Tallin Tuesday.

The grain planted area in 2003 was 255,200 hectares with an average yield of 2.069 tons a hectare. The grain planted area in 2002 was 266,500 hectares, with a average yield 2.04 tons a hectare.

The wheat harvest in 2003 was 156,900 tons, compared with 154,100. The barley harvest increased to 262,600 tons from 249,800 tons and the rye harvest fell to 21,700 tons from 43,400 tons in 2002.
