Vietnam's meat sufficient for Tet holiday
 

 

Nguyen Thanh Son, deputy head of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development's Livestock Department said that Vietnam will have sufficient meat supply for the coming Lunar New Year festival.

 

The country will provide 270,000 tonnes of meat for local consumption in January and during the nine-day Tet holiday which will begin from January 22.

 

The volume is up 10% compared to that in other month, Son said, adding it comprises of 235,000 tonnes of pork and the remaining 35,000 tonnes of poultry.

 

Vietnam has allowed local firms to import 115,000 tonnes of meat, accounting for 3.8% of the total meat offered in the domestic market, Son noted.

 

Meanwhile, prices of live pig stay stable at VND48,000-52,000 (US$2.28-$2.47) per kilogramme while industrially grown chickens are offered at VND32,000-33,000 (US$1.52-$1.57) per kilogramme.
