Finland's Snellman invests in automated minced meat line
Finnish meat product company Snellman is investing a total of EUR5-6 million (US$7.24-8.69 million) in an automated minced meat production line.
According to the company, the aim is to increase production capacity of minced meat by 60%. The new line pays attention to efficiency, occupational safety, and product safety issues.
In 2009, Snellman campaigned on behalf of minced meat from non-frozen fresh meat. As a result, sales of its minced meat increased by 40% from 2008. Snellman supplies a total of 8 million kilogrammes of minced meat a year nationwide.
Snellman is considering large investments also in its abattoir. The cost of these investments would be EUR5-7 million (US$7.24-10.1 million). The investments will be made in 2010 or in 2011.
