Brazil's Independencia leases Mato Grosso cattle plant

Independencia Alimentos Ltd., a Brazilian mid-sized beef company, has leased a Mato Grosso cattle plant with a three-year option to buy at a fixed price.

The plant is able to slaughter, bone and package about 1,000 head of cattle per day. The plant is rented at US$7.4 million per year, and can be purchased at US$85 million in the three-year buying option.

The deal will save the company a significant sum of capital to invest in the purchasing and production of beef.

Independencia S.A. is one of Brazil's leading beef and leather producers, with a daily slaughter capacity of 11,800 heads and a leather processing capacity of 10,000 hides and is a leading cold-chain logistics operator. The company is present in seven states in Brazil as well as Paraguay, and has 14 slaughtering and deboning units.
