Indonesia's shrimp production fall short of target
Although Indonesia's shrimp production increased 9 percent from 300,000 tonnes in 2005 to 327,000 tonnes last year, it was still short of the target of 350,000 tonnes, Director General of Breeding Fisheries Made L. Nurjana said.
Made blamed factors such as slow progress in the revitalization of shrimp farms, chief of which was the PT Dipasena in Lampung, regarded as the world's largest shrimp farm.
Delays in credit disbursement caused revitalization of Dipasena to overshoot its completion dateline of early 2006, he said. The farm was supposed to have contributed 30,000 tonnes of shrimp production last year.
