Canada's wheat crops to benefit from winter conditions
Canada's winter wheat crops, across the Prairie provinces, should benefit from favourable winter conditions despite uncertainties over the state of several fields ahead of the freeze-up.
Jake Davidson, executive director of Winter Cereals Canada, said western Canadian winter wheat growers attending a meeting in Saskatoon earlier this week were generally optimistic over the prospects for the winter wheat currently in the ground. While there were some concerns that the crop may not have been far enough along in the autumn before entering dormancy, he said the wheat could still do fine if conditions co-operate in the spring.
